The CTAO Central Organisation is seeking a Data Analysis Expert to support the Project Science Office at the CTAO SDMC in Zeuthen, Germany.
Your tasks:
- Run the CTAO reconstruction software on observational data and simulations, producing science data products at all levels from DL0 to DL3 (i.e., data levels ranging from raw to science-ready data products).
- Test and evaluate different reconstruction algorithms.
- Optimise reconstruction parameters for observation conditions, array layout and study requirements.
- Provide feedback to pipeline developers and suggest enhancements based on analysis results and operational needs.
- Support telescope acceptance, array commissioning and science verification activities, providing performance estimates and preparing accompanying reports.
- Contribute to studies such as estimating the uncertainty budget, planning a telescope’s deployment strategy, array enhancements and upgrades, etc.
- Develop and run regular benchmark tests.
- Contribute to the data product verification process (data quality control) for data levels from DL0 to DL3.
- Present analysis results and performance estimates to CTAO management and in scientific conferences.
- Other duties as assigned by the Simulation Coordinator.
Your qualifications, experience and skills:
- Degree in physics, astronomy, computer science or related discipline.
- Prior experience and solid understanding of reconstruction and analysis techniques of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes is highly desirable.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Familiarity with software development workflows (e.g., version control systems like Git, CI/CD pipelines).
- Familiarity with grid computing would be an asset.
- Proficiency in creating clear and informative data visualizations to support analysis and communicate results effectively.
- Able to work both independently and in a team.
- Excellent written, organisational and verbal communication skills.
- A high level of proficiency in English is essential.

Your duty station: Zeuthen, Germany. Ability and willingness to travel within the EU.
